THe XK (X100) was and still is a great car but no matter how much we all love them we are also all aware of the corrosion issues that can be a real problem for these cars. The front cross member is just one of these rust prone areas that we come across and that we are, thankfully, able to fix.
Cross Member Rust
The cross member section is not an area that is first to go when it comes to rust. However, as these cars age more and more it is becoming a more common corrosion prone area. The cross members are the horizontal beams that run across the radiator and the front of the car. They may not see quite as much road gunk as the wheel arches but over time they will begin to corrode.
A corroded front cross member on a Jaguar XK is quite a dangerous thing and will be an MOT failure. It forms part of the head on collision strength of the car and helps prevent engine damage during an impact. Naturally if the first barrier is weak there is a knock on effect and a badly corroded cross member could be very bad news in a crash.
Rusty Cross Member Repair
We are able to remove the corroded area and get it right back to the metal that is still good. we then fabricate and weld in a new section. This is a process we have done many times and will completely rid the problem area of rust.
